Tips On Food Storage
- Label food in freezer and date it
- Do not overcrowd and keep fridge clean.
- Put raw food on fridge shelves below food that is cooked, to avoid cross contamination.
- Keep cereals (flour, rice, spaghetti) in airtight containers.
- Put perishable food in covered containers into the fridge or freezer immediately.
- Cool leftovers quickly and refrigerate or freeze immediately.
- Don't leave cooked food at room temperature for more than two hours.
Energy Saving Tips
- Adjust the thermostat so that the hot water is 55° C at the tap.
- Fix dripping taps (hot & cold).
- Check your hot water cylinder overflow pipe to see if the Ajax valve is leaking (on low pressure systems).
- Have showers instead of baths.
- Use cold water when filling the jug, rinsing dishes and washing clothes.
- Switch off hot water heater if you are on holiday for more than two weeks.
- Switch off lights and electric heaters when there is nobody in the room.
- When cooking use the correct size pan to fit the heating element
- When you boil the jug in the morning save the hot water in a flask for later.
