Tips On Food Storage

  1. Label food in freezer and date it
  2. Do not overcrowd and keep fridge clean.
  3. Put raw food on fridge shelves below food that is cooked, to avoid cross contamination.
  4. Keep cereals (flour, rice, spaghetti) in airtight containers.
  5. Put perishable food in covered containers into the fridge or freezer immediately.
  6. Cool leftovers quickly and refrigerate or freeze immediately.
  7. Don't leave cooked food at room temperature for more than two hours.

Energy Saving Tips

  1. Adjust the thermostat so that the hot water is 55° C at the tap.
  2. Fix dripping taps (hot & cold).
  3. Check your hot water cylinder overflow pipe to see if the Ajax valve is leaking (on low pressure systems).
  4. Have showers instead of baths.
  5. Use cold water when filling the jug, rinsing dishes and washing clothes.
  6. Switch off hot water heater if you are on holiday for more than two weeks.
  7. Switch off lights and electric heaters when there is nobody in the room.
  8. When cooking use the correct size pan to fit the heating element
  9. When you boil the jug in the morning save the hot water in a flask for later.
